Dynamic emotional intelligence development programs inspired by yoga and mindfulness meditation.
Offered in 5 class series or single classes. Outcomes: Reduction in high-risk behaviors Multiple studies have shown that higher levels of emotional intelligence decrease risk of substance use (Coelho, 2012 Hosseini and Anari, 2011; Akers and Lee,1999; Riley and Schutte, 2003). Trauma-processing in safe environment Movement that emphasizes self-agency is a powerful tool for processing trauma. Neuroscience and psychology are beginning to make startling discoveries about how trauma is housed in the body. Bessel van der Kolk, M.D., Medical Director of the Trauma Center in Boston discusses the effect of trauma on the body: “We have learned that trauma is not just an event that took place sometime in the past; it is also the imprint left by that experience on mind, brain, and body. This imprint has ongoing consequences for how the human organism manages to survive in the present. Trauma results in a fundamental reorganization of the way mind and brain manage perceptions.” Calmer classes, more focused students The strength of this program is emotional self-regulation. Students will learn non-disruptive tools for refocusing their minds and processing triggering situations. This will result in calmer classes with students who are more equipped to learn. Better decision-making, increased confidence Students will learn mindfulness (awareness) techniques and work in a team to build empathy- tools that will serve them to combat peer pressure and build healthy relationships. |
